As noticed by countless of you guys, the online world is now devoid of a very prominent one-click file-hosting service.

MU was one of the best, fastest and most reliable services through which so many of us have shared millions of knowledgeware (which includes ebooks). I'm so sad it's now gone, having myself purchased a 1-year premium account a couple of years ago and never complained about the service I got. I remember it was always about the so-called battle of the big two: MU vs RS some 5 years ago. Now, all that is part of history... Hoping it rises back from its ashes one day :)

From Betanews

Quote

As the internet pats itself on the back for protesting SOPA and changing the minds of a handful of U.S. Senators, file-sharing site Megaupload has been brought down in one of the largest copyright infringement cases of all time.
Seven individuals and two international corporations have been charged in the United States with running an international organized crime ring dealing exclusively in piracy of copyrighted material.
The U.S. Department of Justice accuses Megaupload.com of a conspiracy to traffic pirated movies, music, television programs, e-books, and software on a massive scale for the last five years, causing damages in excess of $500 million to copyright holders.

Investigation of Megaupload started with the FBI at the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center) and extended to include the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
This case is being led by the Department of Justice Task force on Intellectual Property, and being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section in the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

Don't forget to check out MU's very own official music video. This was made only a couple of months ago.

Some filehosts are already terminating "reward for upload" plans, I guess many sites that made money through them will go down also.

i just noticed that a very popular ebooks site, library.nu also stopped its book sharing service (most of its files are shared via ifile.net). Now its home page claims the site as a no.1 book review site (a complete lie as no reader has posted any review on its site).

It's a shame, really. But anyway Smiley's been doing a great job.

No.1 review site is definitely not appropriate. I would say library.nu now turns to a google-powered preview site. :P

Oops... The login link might disappear from the library.nu's homepage, but everything is still there
